Features of the development of mobile applications for children

Digibu asked the developers of children’s applications to share their experience and tell about the features of designing, testing and implementing mobile applications for children.

Over the past few years, mobile devices have become firmly embedded in our lives. And the direction of application development for such devices is developing at an incredible pace. Basically, developers focus on an adult audience, paying little attention to the fact that children are actively using the devices. Children are a special audience. The development of mobile applications for children is significantly different from the development for adults. So, what are the features of the development of children’s applications, what nuances should be taken into account?

Digibu asked the developers of children’s applications to share their experience and tell about the features of designing, testing and implementing mobile applications for children.

In the development of children’s applications, we always try to adhere to the benefits and harmlessness of the product.

We are trying to offer something new and interesting. It is important to us that a mobile device or tablet does not become in the parental hands another way to get rid of the insistent demands of the baby to play with him. It is worth admitting that many parents do not perceive some of our most innovative products, but our target audience in this case is not them at all, but those modern moms and dads who do not care not only about the development of their own children, but also about their own parental participation in this development and upbringing. iPhones and iPads are wonderful things, but they’re just things! We are not in favor of them completely replacing their parents.

We make not just useful educational applications, but applications that allow parents to take a direct part in the education and development of their child. If we are talking about a book, then you can re-sound it with your own voice, for example. Our latest children’s project ABCDESK is generally more of a tool than an application with which parents can create educational materials on the development of their child’s literacy in two languages: Russian and English.

The development of a high—quality children’s application is no different from the development of the same adult – in both cases, a professional approach, quality of execution and responsibility for the released product are required. There is even more responsibility to children.

It is definitely impossible to place ads in children’s apps, leave various purchases in the public domain for a child, use low-quality content. It is also worth remembering that a long time behind the screen is harmful to the eyes, especially for children.
